Big Win for The Red Knights

AL Ahli win 4-1 against Al Jazira

The Red Knights are back into action on this match day 9 where they face off against Al Jazira in a bid to close the gap on league leaders Al Ain.

After an amazing competition in the AFC which unfortunately left the knights as runners up, they would come in today playing to prove that their spirit and endeavor will carry them on to take the title.

With the players well rallied after news of their comrade Ahmed Khalil winning player of the year in AFC competitions, the boys were out to shine, and the scoring didn’t take long where on the 22^nd minute Moussa Sow was tackled in the box to give Rodrigo Lima a chance the lead from the penalty spot, which he slotted in to give the reds the lead. However minutes before the half time whistle went, Al Jazira number 13 Khamis Esmail pulled one back from a free kick at the edge of the box to make it 1-1. The second half showed the difference between the two sides, Al Ahli scoring 3 times, firstly with a cross form Walid Abbas on the 48^th minute that ended up in the goal, followed by Lima who faked the keeper but was saved and left the ball to Ismael hammadi who slotted in off the inside of the goal post to make it 3-1 on the 57^th minute, and then finally the Maestro himself Everton Ribeiro, who helped set up two goals in the night, punted a beautiful edge of the box goal on the 78^th minute to end the game at 4-1. The players will hope to keep this momentum going into the away game at Al Ain on the 5^th where they could potentially go ahead in the league while still having 2 games in hand. We wish them all the best.

Cosmin: we played one of our best games this season

In the post match conference the head coach for Al Ahli said ‘’ we played one of our best matches this season, great performance from the players , I am satisfied with the result , especially that we showed character and we were confident even after they leveled the score we did not shake and we were confident that we will score , we missed a lot of chances in the first half , but at the same time we have done everything we played attacked deep from the middle . and from the sides , we created chances from crosses and long balls , we took shots from distance but unfortunately we only scored one goal.

He added ‘’ after losing the final of the Asian Champions League the players and everybody felt a little bit down and depressed and I think it showed in our performance in the first half of the previous game , but thankfully we were able to move forward because we have to forget and focus on what is in front of us , I hope we continue playing the same way like today , as we did not only play well and get the three points we also entertained the fans who came to watch and support the team’’.

When asked about Ahmed Khalil’s award being the best player in Asia Cosmin said ‘’ I am very happy for him, especially after what he had gone through , last year he spent a lot of time in the bench , but he worked hard and he proved his quality to everybody , maybe last season some people were demanding another striker to replace him , I think he answered them by winning this award , and this is very important for UAE football , now all players should dream big and try to work hard to reach and achieve what he did and more’’.
